Acoustic Panel NRC & Performance Guide
Acoustic performance values such as NRC, absorption coefficients, or similar ratings should only be used when they are supported by a current test report for the exact panel construction and tested mounting assembly.
Why installation changes acoustic performance
Results can vary based on panel construction, backing/felt, air space, substrate, insulation, mounting method, and test standard. A panel tested over an air cavity or absorptive backing should not automatically be represented by the same value when installed directly to another substrate.
What to request for a specification
- Exact product/model identification
- Test standard and report number
- Tested panel construction
- Mounting method and cavity depth
- Backing or insulation used in the test assembly
- Reported NRC or absorption data
- Current validity and product mapping
Do not transfer ratings between products
Visually similar slat panels can use different cores, veneers, felt, spacing, dimensions, or mounting assemblies. A rating from another product, supplier, or historical configuration should not be assumed to apply.
Fire and other classifications
Fire or reaction-to-fire claims require separate, current documentation for the exact product and configuration. Acoustic performance documentation does not establish fire classification.
