Brick Wall Panels: A Complete Guide for Your Home

Brick wall panels can introduce a textured brick appearance to a feature wall, but products sold under that name can have very different construction and installation requirements. Compare the exact material, approved application and finishing details before choosing a system.
Identify the material behind the brick appearance
A molded faux-brick panel, a decorative sheet and a thin-brick veneer system are different products. Do not choose installation materials based only on a photograph or the word “brick.”
| Product type | Details to request | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Molded polymer or foam-based faux-brick panel | Exact composition, weight, finish, edge profile and approved uses. | Whether its texture, durability and application limits suit the location. |
| Decorative brick-pattern sheet | Core material, thickness, surface coating and painting instructions. | Whether the supplied finish and joint treatment achieve the intended appearance. |
| Thin-brick veneer or a panelized veneer system | Weight, backing, attachment system, joint treatment and substrate requirements. | Whether the wall assembly and installation scope support the selected system. |
This is a comparison of product categories, not a statement that USABD stocks every type. Browse our wall panel collection for current options, or send a reference image to our team to discuss available alternatives.
Choose color, texture and joint appearance together
For a traditional look, compare warm brick tones and a contrasting mortar appearance. For a quieter contemporary feature, consider a more uniform color and restrained texture. Assess a physical sample beside the room's flooring, cabinetry and paint.
Look at more than one panel when possible. Check how the brick pattern repeats and how visible panel seams will be. A close-up sample may show texture well without revealing the repeat across an entire wall.
- Feature wall: draw the panel boundaries around furniture and openings.
- Half-height treatment: include a finished top edge and transitions at door trim.
- TV backdrop: coordinate mounting, outlets and equipment access before installation. See our TV wall panel ideas guide.
- Lighting: test side lighting against the sample to see how it emphasizes texture and joints. Explore USABD lighting options.
Check application limits before ordering
Confirm the exact product's approval for dry interiors, humid rooms, direct water exposure or exterior use. These applications are not interchangeable. A moisture-resistant face does not establish that the complete wall system is suitable for a shower or outdoor installation.
For a fireplace, stove area or other heat source, obtain the required clearances and material limitations from the relevant manufacturers. A brick appearance does not establish that a panel is noncombustible. For commercial work, have the project team review any required fire-performance documentation for the specified assembly.
Do not assume a textured panel has an acoustic rating or will block sound between rooms. Request product-specific performance evidence if sound control is part of the brief.
Calculate coverage from the actual panel layout
Start with the measured wall area, then use the manufacturer's stated usable coverage per panel or pack. Interlocking edges, overlaps and required cuts can make usable coverage different from the panel's overall dimensions.
For example, an 8-foot by 12-foot wall is 96 square feet. If a hypothetical panel provides 8 square feet of usable coverage, the area calculation starts at 12 panels before layout cuts and spare material. This example is not a USABD product specification.
Draw the pattern around openings and corners before setting the final quantity. Agree on a waste allowance based on the layout and whether offcuts can be reused; a single percentage will not suit every project. Round up to the actual selling unit and include the required corner pieces and edge treatments.
Plan installation and accessories as one system
Read the selected product's installation instructions before purchasing adhesives, fasteners or trim. For example, Texture Plus installation guidance specifies adhesive and screws for its panels, along with storage, orientation and joint details. That is an example of a manufacturer's system, not a universal method for all brick panels.
- Review the substrate: identify the wall construction and any damage or moisture issue that must be resolved first.
- Confirm preparation: follow the panel system's requirements for surface condition, storage and acclimation.
- Plan corners and ends: confirm compatible corner pieces, returns, top edges and any approved finishing compounds.
- Coordinate fixtures: account for added wall thickness at outlets, switches and trim. Have electrical changes handled by a qualified professional.
- Check the layout: dry-fit the pattern and review a small section before committing to the full wall.
- Use the specified method: follow the required cutting, fixing, movement and curing details for the exact material.
Interior WPC clips, acoustic end slats and natural-veneer corner trims are not default accessories for brick-look panels. Match accessories to the selected manufacturer's system and finish.
Compare complete project costs
Request quotes for the same finished area and scope. Include panels, corners, trim, compatible installation materials, substrate repairs, cuts, delivery, labor and any electrical adjustments. Compare usable coverage rather than price per panel alone.
Do not assume a weekend completion, a fixed price range or a lower total cost than masonry without a project-specific quote. Confirm availability and installation timing before scheduling other trades.
Care and ordering checklist
Request cleaning and repair instructions for the exact finish. Confirm permitted cleaners, repainting products and touch-up methods instead of applying generic advice for another material. If future removal matters, ask how the attachment method may affect the underlying wall.
Before ordering, record the product name, finish, approved use, usable coverage, final quantity, compatible accessories and installation requirements. Review delivery and return terms for the actual order.
